Title:'The Cultures and Globalization Series: challenges and perspectives'.
A short note:
Cultures are
deeply affected by globalization, but in ways that are still inadequately
analyzed and understood. The Cultures
and Globalization Series is intended to fill this knowledge gap. In each volume, leading experts as well as
emerging analysts from all world regions and in a range of disciplines explore
the different facets of a particular issue.
Each volume prepared in this ecumenical manner also presents
quantitative data in novel and easy-to-grasp information graphics formats; the
aim is to contribute to the inchoate process of elaborating cultural indicators. The following volumes have been published: Conflicts
and Tensions (2007); The Cultural Economy (2008) and Cultural Expression, Creativity and
Innovation (2009-10). In
preparation: Heritage, Memory, Identity (2011) and Cultural Policy and Governance in a New Metropolitan Age (2012).
To succeed these 5 volumes, a web-based knowledge management approach is
planned. The project is supported by
private foundations in Europe, the USA and Japan; the volumes are published by
SAGE Publications, London. The CSCS
presentation on 12 January will discuss some of the achievements, shortcomings
and methodological challenges of the project, as well as perspectives for the
future.
