Professor Ashis Nandy is without doubt one of the most distinguished cultural theorists and public intellectuals of our time. He is currently the ICSSR National Fellow. He has spent most of his extraordinarily productive academic career at CSDS, serving as its Director for five years in the 1990s and retiring in 2004. Nandy is also Chairperson of the Committee for Cultural Choices and Global Futures. Author of over 16 books—including such well-known works as The Intimate Enemy, The Savage Freud, and The Tao of Cricket—his work is nearly unique in not fitting any disciplines. He has over the years fashioned his own idiom and questions. He has received many distinguished awards and delivered innumerable keynote addresses.
