Social Justice in Higher Education
Work in this area tries to interrogate the centrality of the idea of social justice and diversity to higher education in India today. Apart from the crucial questions of equity and access of socially and economically marginalized students to higher education, the initiative also seeks to examine the quality of their access to higher education institutions, attempts at reform and their manifestations in terms of policy and implementation in the sector.
A key project in this area is a campus diversity initiative in collaboration with the Pathways to Higher Education programme of the Ford Foundation, in nine undergraduate colleges in three states.
Key objectives of this programme are to:
- Improve the quality of access to higher education at the undergraduate level.
- Build a viable model for social diversity on the campus thereby getting institutions to recognize its centrality to the sphere of higher education
